Fun Fact: Fielder Jones was a talented ballplayer and regarded as one of the best field managers in the early 1900’s. During the Dead Ball Era, when every run was a precious commodity, Jones had the ability to squeeze enough runs to win 1906 AL pennant. Leaning on pitching and defense, the 1906 White Sox finished dead last in batting average (.230), yet somehow scraped together the third-most runs in the American League while allowing the fewest.
The 1906 World Series was billed as a David versus Goliath contest: it was the 116-36 Chicago Cub powerhouse against the “Hitless Wonders”. In the end, it was the underdog White Sox that won the Series 4-2.
