Shibe Park Ground Crew
Source: National Baseball Hall of Fame Library
Photo Subject: Grounds crew member carefully preparing Shibe Park for a game.
Fun Fact: The date of this image is unknown. Based on the advertisers on the left field wall (Formost Frankfurters, Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews and the Delaware Funds), I am assuming the image is post WWII or early 1950’s. If the image is 1953 or later, the ball park was called Connie Mack Stadium, named after the Philadelphia Athletics Hall of Fame manager Cornelius McGillicuddy, or Connie Mack.
Painting Detail: Printed on 13 ” x 19” canvas and painted using Schmincke Mussini and Marshall’s oil paints. Finer details were made using Prismacolor pencils.
