Babe Ruth, a Man of the People, 1922

Photographer: Mark Rucker/Transcendental Graphics

Photo Subject: Babe Ruth stands out in an excited crowd of young admirers on June 11, 1922 in New York.

Fun Fact: To many people, Babe Ruth was just an overgrown kid. Some speculate that his love for children was connected to him being sent to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys and Orphanage at age seven.

One story that stands out of Babe Ruth and children is when he visited a sick boy in a St. Louis hospital. During that visit, the Babe promised the youngster that he would hit a home run for him. The next day he hit two. There is no doubt that the two things Babe loved most in life were baseball and making kids happy.

Painting Detail: Printed on 13” x 19” canvas and painted using Schmincke Mussini and Marshall’s oil paints. Finer details were made using Prismacolor pencils.
