Boston Red Sox, 1915

Photographer: George Bentham Bain Collection
Photo Subject: Babe Ruth (p), Bill Carrigan (mgr/c), Jack Barry (ss) and Vean Gregg (p), but let’s face it, it is a young Babe Ruth that is the main point of interest in this photo.
Fun Fact: 1915 was Babe Ruth’s sophomore year in the majors, and as a pitcher he went 18 wins to 8 losses. As a batter, he hit .315 and had four home runs - not too bad for a pitcher in the dead ball era.
The Red Sox in 1915 went on to win 101 game to 50 losses, and beat the NL champion Phillies in five games in the World Series. Due to the pitching-rich Red Sox staff, Ruth did not appear in the 1915 World Series.
Painting Detail: Printed on 13” x 19” canvas and painted using Schmincke Mussini and Marshall’s oil paints. Finer details were made using Prismacolor pencils.
